THE LUXURY 4 STAR SALTHOUSE HARBOUR HOTEL REDEVELOPMENT AT THE IPSWICH MARINA WAS VOTED THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SURVEYOR’S “PROJECT OF THE YEAR” 2010.
The successful completion of the multi-million pound development project to extend Ipswich's premier 4 star luxury waterfront hotel, the Salthouse Harbour Hotel was recently announced.
The major development was spearheaded by renowned main contractor ISG Jackson and designed by Ipswich based Architect Barefoot and Gilles.
The six storey concrete frame extension provides a new reception area, new dining facilities and an additional 27 luxury bedrooms to the hotel. The extension boasts outstanding views across the Marina and has a stunning modern facade installed by Suffolk & Norfolk Cladding.
It is rare to see such balance created between established architectural structures, such as the original redbrick dockside warehouse, and sizeable modern extensions; however, with this project the Architects’ ideas were brought perfectly to fruition. The facade was constructed of high grade ‘Kingspan FL’ panelling and the specially fabricated “cranked” panels were installed on a galvanized support system designed by S & N Cladding.
From the outset it was clear to see this was no ordinary project! High quality Vitrabond curtain walling was installed across the balcony patio door elevations to create a clean modern appeal, which combined with the glazed balcony panelling suggests a somewhat nautical conceptualization. This uncluttered, fine line contemporary chic, combined with the traditional and original Victorian period building creates a truly exceptional finish.
Fully aware of the benefits of green roofing to both the environment and the overall finish of such a landmark project, S & N Cladding installed an Alwitra single ply roof to a tapered Kingspan insulation board system and then added a low maintenance Green Sedum roof using locally sourced indigenous grass and plant species.
The overall project is a great example of the continuing quality of the development of the Ipswich Marina and a prime example of S & N Cladding’s talent and versatility.
