COMMERCIAL UNITS’ REGENERATION: COLCHESTER, ESSEX.

Suffolk and Norfolk Cladding approached the regeneration of these older style commercial units and offices with 2 major issues in mind:

1.  The client was very concerned about the impact the old asbestos roofing would have upon the environment.  Although fully conversant with Suffolk and Norfolk’s ability to deal with Hazardous Waste in line with HSE recommendations, the client was looking for a cost effective alternative that would NOT affect the environment in any way.

2.  The original construction of the individual units limited the choice of reroofing products and designs; the client did NOT want to have to spend significant amounts of capital providing new timber supports throughout this substantial area due to the increased weight of a newly installed roofing system.

Suffolk and Norfolk addressed these issues with both an environmentally friendly and a cost effective approach to the regeneration plan.  The entire reroofing project encapsulated the existing asbestos panels, this, of course, meant that no down time was necessary and even at the height of the regeneration process, business continued as normal.  After much consultation with the client and some serious attention to the design dynamics involved, Suffolk and Norfolk’s design team decided upon a system they had used very successfully before, the Filon GRP “sinusoidal” over roof system. Based on the principle that service and customer satisfaction is everything, the project was completed successfully, well within budget and with nothing but positive effects to the environment.
